A late 19th-century cast iron box iron and an accompanying pair of hand-forged wrought iron tongs. The box iron, also known as a slug iron, features a hollow internal chamber containing a rectangular metal heating slug. The rear of the iron is fitted with a sliding door bearing a raised numeral 6. The iron is equipped with a turned wooden handle mounted on scrolled metal supports. The accompanying wrought iron tongs feature twisted shanks, open finger loops, and curved pincer ends, designed for the manipulation of heated components.
