Islamic Stone Chess Piece, Nishapur, Near Eastern - Carved from fine white stone, this Islamic chess piece displays the elegant geometric form typical of medieval Persian gaming sets. Its lathe-like shaping, broad base, and stepped profile reflect the abstract artistic style favored in the Islamic world, where chess pieces avoided human representation.
