Indian Nephrite & Mother-of-Pearl Mythical Beast Powder Flask - This elegant Indian powder flask is masterfully carved from nephrite jade and richly embellished with an intricate mosaic of mother-of-pearl inlay. The vessel is fashioned in the form of a fantastical mythical creature, combining a stylized animal body with a gracefully curved tail and a finely carved bird-like head serving as the finial. The iridescent mother-of-pearl tesserae create a shimmering scale-like surface, beautifully contrasting with the deep green nephrite of the head, tail, and decorative details. Such luxurious powder flasks were prized as both functional accessories and objects of artistic refinement, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship and decorative traditions of 19th-century India. The harmonious use of precious materials and imaginative zoomorphic design makes this piece a remarkable example of Indian lapidary and ornamental art.
