The tool comprises a bulbous, rounded crown block tapering to a flared pedestal, which is mounted onto a long rectangular solid wooden base. The block is constructed using laminated hardwood blocks, a traditional technique used to ensure structural stability and resistance to warping when subjected to steam and heat. The block is secured to the plinth via a central recessed fitting visible on the underside. The maker mark SAVVAS is incised into the top surface of the wooden base at the right end.
