A Hand-Knotted Persian Mihrab Design Rug - This lot comprises a hand-knotted Persian rug featuring a Mihrab design. The central cream field is decorated with a millefleurs floral pattern of blossoms and scrolling foliage, flanked by two pale blue architectural columns supporting a triple-arch arcade. The main border is navy blue with repeating stylised floral palmettes and rosettes, enclosed by multiple guard borders with scrolling vine motifs. The piece is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The reverse of the rug shows a high-density weave. Measurement across the reverse against a metric and imperial scale indicates 6 to 7 knots per centimetre, equivalent to 16 knots per linear inch (photo 3). Approx. 155 x 220cm.
