Eim L’Mesoras - Zichron Yerushalayim, Jerusalem 1871. With Handwritten Dedication by Author.

A complete copy of Sefer Eim L’Mesoras, also bound with Zichron Yerushalayim, with a separate title for each. Sefer Eim L’Mesoras was authored by R. Leib Charif, author of Kol Aryeh (published in Jerusalem 1866, with approbations of leading Torah scholars of Jerusalem and Russia), and deals with the many verses in the Torah where the spelling and reading can be interchangeable.

Printed with the approbation of leading Torah scholars alongside Chassidic Rebbes. Among them, we find the famed Sephardic Kabbalist R. Eliyahu Mani, and leading Chassidic Master R. Aharon of Chernobyl and sons, R. Menachem Nachum, R. Yeshaya Meshulam Zushye and R. Baruch Asher.

Also bound with Zichron Yerushalayim, authored by R. Shneur Zalman Schneerson of Jerusalem. As a grandson to the Alter Rebbe and staunch Chabad Chassid, (his mother Rivka was a daughter of R. Moshe Schneuri, the Alter Rebbe’s son) he served as ShaDar (emissary) for Kollel Chabad based in Hebron, and traveled throughout the world. In this way he visited many countries and met with famous Rabbis and affluent individuals.

As such, this work contains many fascinating details of various Holy sites, gravesites and synagogues throughout 19th century Palestine and surrounding areas, as well as other large cities where there was a significant Jewish population. His many travels seemingly served as the catalyst for this work. Interestingly, upon mentioning the Jewish community of Baghdad, he details his encounter he had with the great sage R. Yosef Haim, known as Ben Ish Hai.

With woodcuts of synagogues and Holy sites. Seen on flyleaf a handwritten inscription (written in Sephardic script!) from the author to R. Shlomo Dayan, Rabbi of Turkey. He is also mentioned in the work, see pp. 19.

In very good condition. Flyleaf detached. Printed on brown, fragile paper. Ancient Sephardic ownership inscriptions seen on title page.

16, 28 pp.
