Classic: Teshuvos MaHaram MiRutenberg - Ha’aruchos - First Edition, Prague 1608. The Ehrenreich Family Copy.

A complete copy of Sefer Sha’alos U’Tshuvos MaHaram MiRutenburg - R. Meir b. Baruch of Rutenberg, first edition, Prague 1608. This edition is commonly referred to as “Tshuvos Maharam Ha’aruchos” (the “long” responsa, i.e. since they are relatively long and detailed), not to be confused with another earlier edition printed in Cremona in 1557 which contained very short and concise responsa.

This copy belonged to the Ehrenreich family - R. Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich of Simleu, and his sons R. Chaim and R. Yehoshua (who succeeded his position). Stamps of R. Chaim and R. Yehoshua can be seen on title page. Also seen are two long inscriptions written in the hand of R. Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich detailing the difference between this edition and the earlier Cremona edition, as well as additional details regarding the introduction, which was written by R. Yitzchak Katz, son-in-law of the MaHaral of Prague. No ownership inscription is seen, presumably since it was written on the flyleaf, which did not survive (Indeed, R. Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich customarily inscribed his name only on the flyleaves of his books).

R. Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich (1863-1944), a leading Torah personality in prewar Hungary. He was a grandson of the “Kol Aryeh” of Mad, and a foremost disciple of the Kedushas Yomtov of Sighet.

Also seen is the ownership stamp of R. Rafael Meir Panigel (1804-1893), Rishon L’Zion of Jerusalem from 1880 until his death in 1893.

Also seen are marginal glosses in oriental Sephardic hand, quite possibly written by R. Panigel, although they appear to be from an earlier period.

In very good condition. Paper slightly browned at times, typical of Prague imprints.

2-5, 114 pp.

Vinograd, Prague 161.
