Large Manuscript of Chidushei Chasam Sofer, Pressburg Circa 1811.

A large, folio-sized manuscript containing Chidushim of R. Moshe Sofer of Pressburg. The writer of this manuscript was R. Zalman of Unsdorf, whose autograph appears on two leaves. Apparently, he was a close disciple of the Chasam Sofer during his early years in Pressburg. It contains Chidushim on various Sugyos of Shas, as well as a handful of Derashos, some which have seemingly never been published. Some of the Chidushim were copied directly from the Chasam Sofer’s own manuscript, which were brought to print by his grandson R. Shlomo Alexander Sofer (Munkacs, 1902), while others are recorded directly as heard from him.

Leaves 2-4 contain Chiddushim of R. David Tevele Schier, one of the Rebbeim of the Chasam Sofer whom he studied with during his youth. These were perhaps copied from the Chasam Sofer’s personal manuscripts and were therefore included together with the Chasam Sofer’s own Chiddushim.
