The Morning of Saturday, August 3rd, we will bid farewell to a unique legacy collection of American toys and banks: The Haradin Family Collection. A magnificent and richly historical archive, it spans multiple generations of a family whose roots are deeply embedded in two communities: their native Pittsburgh and the borderless realm of antique toy and bank collecting. This auction hits especially close to home for us because the Pittsburgh clan that built the collection includes our lifelong friend and colleague Ray Haradin, the "R" of RSL Auction Company. The Afternoon of Saturday, August 3rd we will be selling the world class paper lithography collection of Carl & Linda Thomas of Bluefield, WV. Included are many fantastic skittle and knockdown sets, about 15 sets of paper litho trains and about 15 to 20 paper litho horse drawn toys. Also included in this sale is a selection of still banks, penny toys, and the Kobe Toy Collection of Ron & Sandy Rosen.

Shoot the Chute Bank
Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Connecticut - Circa 1906. From the Andrew Emerine Collection. While examining the Shoot the Chute, we encounter another perfect illustration of Charles Bailey's endless passion for organic foliate design. In this instance, it is clear that he has been inspired by the Art Nouveau style prevalent at the opening of the 20th century. In particular, please note the swirling gold branches and leafy appendages that decorate the sides of the inclined ramp. They are characterized by a type of elegant refinement that you also find in the print work of Aubrey Beardsley from the same period. As its name implies, the action for the Shoot the Chute bank is fast and furious. Buster Brown and Tige come rocketing down the ramp standing upright in a shiny nickel-plated toboggan. Your penny is deposited when the bottom of the bobsled runs over it, pushing it into the slot. In the same moment a large hook pops up at the bottom of the track to catch sled riders, however, at times they flip over. The present bank for auction has an impeccable provenance. coming from the Emerine Collection in Ohio. It retains nearly 100% of its paint and the patina on its metallic components is flawless.
