A Cobalt Blue Jasperware Biscuit Barrel with Silver-Plated Mounts - A late 19th or early 20th-century cobalt blue jasperware stoneware biscuit barrel of slightly tapered cylindrical form. The body features white sprigged relief decoration in the Neo-Classical taste, depicting central female figures—one holding a bird and another carrying a basket of fruit upon her head—flanked by putti or cherubs. The jar is fitted with a silver-plated rim featuring two mounts for a swing handle. It is topped with a matching silver-plated circular lid adorned with a decorative turned finial. The underside of the metal lid is stamped with the serial number 20772 and the letters EPNS within a rectangular cartouche, alongside an indistinct circular mark, identifying the metalwork as electroplated nickel silver. The stoneware body is in the characteristic style of Wedgwood jasperware. Height (to top of finial): approximately 15 cm.
