Bidspirit auction | A Viennese Cold-Painted Spelter Orientalist

A Viennese Cold-Painted Spelter Orientalist Table Lighter Figural Group of Carpet Sellers - This cold-painted spelter figural group is modelled as an Orientalist scene, depicting a camel with two figures. One figure, wearing a red fez and a tunic, is seated atop the animal behind an open circular socket that originally functioned as a mount for a table lighter mechanism or associated accessory. A second figure, dressed in traditional flowing robes and a turban, stands alongside the camel. Draped over the side of the animal is a large, intricately cast carpet featuring a geometric diamond pattern in shades of red, yellow, and blue. The group is set upon an integral, naturalistic base. The piece is cast from a zinc alloy (spelter) and finished with multi-coloured cold-painted decoration in the Viennese style. There are no maker's marks, signatures, or inscriptions visible on the exterior or the underside of the base. Height: Approximately 16.5 cm Length: Approximately 20.3 cm Weight: Approximately 1–2 kg.
