Italian Florentine Giltwood and Polychrome Miniature Chest of Drawers - An Italian Florentine miniature two-drawer chest, designed in the mid-20th century Louis XV Rococo style as a jewellery box or tabletop accent. The piece is constructed from wood with a gesso ground, finished with gilding and polychrome decoration. The chest features a serpentine front and stands on four cabriole legs. The drawers are of simple wooden box construction. The exterior is finished in a distressed gold-tone gilding. The top and sides are decorated with a repeating pattern of stylised quatrefoils and foliate motifs in shades of red, cream, and gold. The drawer fronts feature central floral medallions and scrolling foliate designs in gold and blue against an orange-red ground, framed by white dotted borders. The back of the chest has a simple incised diamond-hatched pattern in the gilding. The hardware consists of two small circular gilded knobs. No maker's marks or signatures are visible.
