Bidspirit auction | Cast Iron Circus Elephant Still

Cast Iron Circus Elephant Still Bank with Painted Howdah - A cast iron still bank modelled in the form of a circus elephant. The figure is depicted in a walking stance with a raised trunk featuring a flared tip. The elephant is finished in a dark grey colour with white painted tusks and is adorned with a decorative howdah painted in red and gold. The bank is constructed from two cast halves secured by a single iron screw on the left flank. A vertical coin slot is located on the upper rump of the elephant. While the design shares aesthetic similarities with 19th-century mechanical banks, this example functions as a still bank with no internal mechanism. There are no visible maker's marks or foundry stamps present. Length: Approximately 19 cm Height: Approximately 11.5 cm.
