The set is housed in a purpose-built wooden transit case with a black-painted exterior finish and metal reinforcement straps. The case features two metal drop handles for transport. The interior is fitted with wooden partitions and the lid is lined with green felt to protect the equipment. The individual plate holders are constructed from wood and metal, designed for large-format plate cameras. A small rectangular metal plate is riveted to the lid, inscribed: MADE IN ENGLAND BY THE HOUGHTON-BUTCHER MFG. CO., LTD. LONDON, E.17. The set appears to have been used in a professional or industrial capacity, as evidenced by various handwritten annotations on the top edges of the slides, including Marconi, Gentry Tube, and Mercury.
