Bidspirit auction | A Painted Leather Bengal Tiger

A Painted Leather Bengal Tiger Figure - A large leather figure of a prowling Bengal tiger, constructed with a textured surface mimicking animal hide. The piece is hand-painted with a traditional orange body colour, featuring cream undersides and a series of irregular black stripes. The tiger is modelled in an anatomically active pose with an open mouth, displaying a painted red interior, and includes applied whiskers near the muzzle. The construction shows visible seams along the limbs and underbelly, consistent with leather-wrapped papier-mâché techniques of the mid-20th century. The underside is finished in a plain cream paint and bears no legible maker's marks, signatures, or labels. Length: 68.6 cm Height: 30.5 cm.
