Large Spanish Folding Navaja Knife
Iberian Peninsula, Spain, famous Navaja folding knife in typical fashion with a decorated red inset blade that has a single edge and sharp terminating point for multiple uses. The beautiful handle in bright brass with incised patterns and turned finial, the steel core with a mechanism to fold the knife back into the handle. Size 17" L, blade 7 3/4" L

Navaja knives have a historical association with piracy, particularly during the Golden Age of Piracy in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Pirates, who roamed the seas in search of treasure and plunder, often carried a variety of weapons, including knives, for self-defense, utility, and intimidation. Navaja knives with brass handles were well-suited for maritime life and could serve a variety of purposes aboard a pirate ship.
