Queen-Anne Flintlock Pistol, by James Freeman 1725-1730 (London)
Signed James Freeman London, England circa 1725 - 1730. Beautiful silver mounted grotesque face to the bulbous butt. Additional silver inlays to the top of the stock reverse the barrel of a heart and to the side plate of openwork scrolling. Fine walnut burled wood stock. Steel flintlock mechanism signed - James Freeman - to the lower right side, proofed and struck GP to the underside of the barrel, under the crown and V under the crown with an additional proof struck over. The lock and barrel with elegant engraving of linear scrolling and wavy bands with light foliate decoration. Top side of barrel marked London. Multifaceted barrel or lock fore section with a transition to round at the swamped spin-off barrel. Size 10 3/4" L, barrel 5 3/4" L, dis-assembled barrel 4 1/2" L
