Medieval Islamic Silver (Gryphon) Tray, Seljuk Dynasty 12th c.
Medieval Persia, Khorasan, Seljuq / Seljuk 12th century or earlier. Fantastic Iranian silver inlaid griffin / griffon / gryphon tray in brass. Central motif with a the mythological beast over an engraved pattern with a copper or gold border. Rim with additional panels of script highlighted with silver inlay and bordered with copper or gold inlay. Exterior bowl with matching panels of large script and wiring over very decorative engraved backgrounds. Size 7" W x 1 1/4" H

Condition: Cracks, wear, age commensurate with use. Nice patina that has not been overcleaned.
