Late 19th Century French Giltwood and Gesso Pier Mirror - A large vertical pier mirror featuring a gilded wood and gesso frame. The mirror is topped with an arched profile and an elaborate decorative crest composed of scrolling acanthus leaves and a central shell-form motif. The frame body is decorated with a continuous molded border of repeating foliate patterns. The mirror plate is shaped to follow the arched contour of the frame. A small white rectangular inventory label marked with the numerals 501 is affixed to the lower-left corner of the mirror glass. The construction is characteristic of the late 19th-century French Rococo revival style.
