A Pair of Japanese Imari Porcelain Ginger Jars and Covers - A pair of Japanese Imari export porcelain ginger jars with matching covers, dating to the late 19th century Meiji Period. Each jar is of ovoid form with a domed lid surmounted by a clear-glazed pointed finial. The exterior is hand-painted in a traditional Imari palette, featuring two large lobed white reserves set against a deep navy-blue ground. The reserves are decorated with polychrome enamel scenes of birds perched and in flight amidst flowering prunus branches and peony blossoms. The blue ground is embellished with iron-red and gilt floral vignettes and delicate scrollwork patterns. The underside of one jar exhibits an illegible brownish mark to the centre of the glazed base. Height approximately 18-20 cm.
