Samuel Prout (British, 1783-1852), St. Ives Harbour, Water Colour - Samuel Prout (British, 1783-1852). A nineteenth-century coastal scene executed in water colour with bodycolour highlights on paper. The composition depicts a large timber cart manned by two figures and pulled by a team of three horses along a rocky shoreline, likely at low tide. In the middle ground, a three-masted sailing ship is anchored near a smaller vessel under an expansive sky with building cumulus clouds. The work is signed S. PROUT in red pigment to the lower right corner and inscribed ST. IVES HARBOUR in red pigment to the lower left corner. It is housed in a deep-set gilt composition frame with a gold-coloured mat.
