British School, 19th Century, Harvest Scene, Oil on Canvas - An oil on canvas painting depicting a traditional nineteenth-century English pastoral harvest scene. The composition features several stooks of hay arranged in the foreground of a sun-drenched field. A solitary figure is depicted resting in the middle distance beside a cluster of mature leafy trees. In the background, a village with a prominent church spire is nestled amongst further woodland, all set beneath an expansive sky filled with voluminous white and grey clouds. The work is executed in the style of the Victorian English landscape school, employing atmospheric brushwork to capture the play of light across the rural landscape. The painting is presented in a substantial, multi-moulded gilt frame featuring a beaded inner border. A small white rectangular sticker on the lower rail of the frame bears the handwritten digits 601.
