Chad Valley Hand-Cut Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle in Original Art Deco Box - A vintage wooden jigsaw puzzle manufactured by The Chad Valley Co. Ltd. of Harborne, England. The puzzle is housed in its original cardboard box, the lid of which features a printed Art Deco illustration depicting two men in formal evening wear and a woman in an evening dress assembling a jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle pieces are hand-cut from plywood in the irregular interlocking style characteristic of early 20th-century production. The interior of the box contains an original printed inspection slip from the manufacturer. The box lid bears a blue vertical label printed with the text THE CHAD VALLEY Jig-Saw Puzzle MADE AT THE CHAD VALLEY WORKS HARBORNE ENGLAND. The inspection slip is titled THE CHAD VALLEY BRITISH MADE JIG-SAW and includes printed text regarding the quality control process at the Harborne works. A white adhesive price tag is present on the lid with the handwritten numbers 12704 10/20. The word GIG-SAW is written in pencil on the underside of the box base. The puzzle pieces appear to depict a classical or historical scene which differs from the illustration on the box lid.
