Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Late 19th
A Pair of Late 19th or Early 20th Century English School Rural Landscape prints. - This pair of landscapes, rendered in a representational English school style, depicts idyllic rural scenes. The first print illustrates a riverside thatched cottage with a small wooden jetty and boats, titled Fisherman's Rest in a printed script at the lower left. The second composition shows a cluster of timber-framed cottages beside a stream with a small bridge, inscribed PADBURY (BUCKS.) in the lower right, identifying the location as the village of Padbury in Buckinghamshire. The works are executed in soft, muted tones on paper and appear to be either watercolours or high-quality chromolithographs of the period. Both pieces are presented in matching stained oak frames featuring gilt-lined inner slips and are set behind glass with paper mounts. No artist signature is visible on the surface of the works.
