Mid-20th-Century Chinese Carved Camphor Wood Chest - A mid-20th-century Chinese export chest constructed from camphor wood. The exterior is finished with a dark stain and features extensive high relief carving on the lid, front, and corner pilasters. The central reserves on the lid and front are designed as smooth semi-circles, surrounded by detailed scenes of traditional Chinese junks at sea, pagodas, and figures within a landscape. Repeating floral and scrolling borders frame the decorative panels. The corner posts are integrated into the structure and feature carved mythical dragons. The sides are fitted with recessed, decoratively carved handles. The chest is equipped with traditional brass hardware, including a circular latch plate with a pin. The interior is of plain, light-coloured camphor wood and contains a small sliding internal box frame.
