A Pair of Mid-20th Century Oak Mantel Clocks including a Smiths Example - This lot comprises a pair of mid-20th century oak mantel clocks including a Smiths example. The first clock features a dark-stained oak case with a silvered Roman numeral dial and a three-train mechanical movement striking the Westminster chime on five internal metal rods. The second clock is constructed with a lighter finished oak case and a stepped base, featuring an Arabic numeral dial and a two-train mechanical movement that strikes on a single wire coil gong. Both clocks are housed in wood cases of Napoleon design with hinged rear doors and include their respective pendulums. The first clock features an engine-turned movement plate stamped SMITHS MADE IN GT. BRITAIN BY SMITHS ENGLISH CLOCKS LTD, with additional stamps X5A and 5610. Its dial is marked MADE IN GT. BRITAIN. The second clock has a movement plate stamped BRITISH-MADE and a pendulum bob with a circular mark containing the digits 3 and 5. A paper retailer label is affixed to the glass of the Smiths clock reading Shobrook & Co 083 Plymouth, and both clocks carry white adhesive tags marked R1102G.
