The heptagonal coin is struck in silver and features a colourised reverse design. The obverse depicts the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, with initials J.C visible below the truncation, and carries the legend 50 PENCE 2019 ELIZABETH II D G REG F D. The reverse, designed by Magic Light Pictures, shows the Gruffalo character with the inscription THE GRUFFALO above. The coin is presented within a clear acrylic display block printed with forest illustrations and the quote Oh help! Oh no! It's a gruffalo!.
