The coin is struck in .925 sterling silver and features a mirrored proof finish. The obverse displays the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, surrounded by the legend ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 5 POUNDS ·. The reverse, designed by Timothy Noad, shows four crowned monograms representing Queen Elizabeth II, Charles, Prince of Wales, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince George of Cambridge, inscribed E, C, W, and G within a central circle. This central design is encircled by the legend FOUR GENERATIONS OF THE ROYAL FAMILY and the date 2018. The coin is housed in a clear plastic capsule and presented in a black clamshell box with a purple and white card slipcase. The slipcase and the included commemorative booklet are both printed with the text Four Generations, One Historic Moment and The Royal Mint.
