PAUL STRISIK (1918-1998) OIL ON CANVAS (x2)
Paul Strisik (1918-1998)

1. South Village (1977) The view of a traditional and picturesque New England village is signed lower right front and titled verso with reference to the state of Maine.

2. Cloud Shadows (Late 1970s) The rolling landscape, with broad swaths of sunlight and shadows on the hillsides, is signed by the artist in black pigment lower left.

The estate of artist Paul Strisik seems to have had a relationship with the Brookside area Johnson-Welsh Galleries in Kansas City. They, for years, handled the artist's work, as did their successors Jack and Georgia Olsen of American Legacy Gallery, even after the artist's passing.

Paul Strisik was a very prolific and talented artist who became a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, and an Academician of the National Academy of Design. Among the various strengths of his paintings are the skillful portrayal of varying effects of light, atmosphere and weather - as seen in this painting - which Strisik rendered with a keen sense of observation and an impressionistic touch. His works also evoke a strong sense of place and time without the viewer realizing just what it is about the picture that conveys this.

Canvas measures 12 x 20 with a framed size of 20.25 x 28.25 inches. Board measures 10 x 14 with a framed size of 18.5 x 22 inches.

Provenance: Johnson-Welsh Galleries to a private collection, Kansas City, Missouri.
