J. HAROLD NOECKER (1912-2002) EXHIBITED OIL ON BOARD
Harold Noecker (1912-2002)
Untitled (The Tenant)
1973
The artist's trademark work depicting an enigmatic surrealist-leaning scene of isolation is signed lower right front and retains notations verso including an inscription stating that this work won an exhibition in Ft. Myers in 1974.
Harold Noecker exhibited his work at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Milwaukee Art Institute, the 1964 World's Fair in New York, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. He seems to be a part of that tradition of surrealist painters that flourished in the upper Midwest during the mid 20th century, several of which are represented in this auction.
