A 150 PC ARCHIVE BY WPA ARTIST MARY HUNTOON (1896-1970)
Mary Huntoon (Kansas, 1896-1970)
First half of the 20th century
Kansas artist Mary Huntoon studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in France. This archive includes work from both of these periods, as well as her time back in Kansas in the 1930s.
As a Kansas artist, Ms. Huntoon played a significant role in the Kansas Federal Art Project, particularly in the printmaking division for which she produced a number of images. She later pioneered studies in art therapy.
This archive is comprised of more than 150 works on paper by Mary Huntoon, along with portraits of her by friends and fellow artists. The vast majority of Huntoon works have signatures, dates and interesting, insightful notations.
