RARE! RABBI DAVID LEIB SILBERSTEIN, AUTHOR OF SHEVILEI DAVID, SIGNED HANDWRITTEN LETTER TO RABBI AVRAHAM YEHUDA SCHWARTZ, AUTHOR OF KOL ARYEH, ASKING HIM TO RECOMMEND HIM FOR THE RABBINATE OF KAPUSH.
‘I have heard that they now wish to appoint a rabbi [in Kapush], and someone told me that a number of prominent people have spoken of me for the post. My request is that your honour should please do me the favour of recommending me to them’.
Rabbi David Leib Silberstein (1820-1884), a disciple of Maharam Ash and Rabbi Koppel Charif of Vrbove. Dayan in Ujhely and Rabbi in Szenta. For some years he lived in Yerushalayim where he served as a Dayan, but returned to Hungary in 1870 serving in several communities, including Weitzen. Author of Shevilei David.
Rabbi Avraham Yehuda HaCohen Schwartz (1824-1884), Disciple of the Chassam Sofer and of the Shaarei Torah. Rabbi of Beregsasz (1861) and Mad (1881), headed a large Yeshiva and was recognised as a leading halachic authority. Author of Kol Aryeh.
