REBBETZEN SHTERNA SARAH SCHNEERSON OF LUBAVITCH – LONG HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER.

Long signed Yiddish letter in the elegant cursive handwriting of Rebetzen Shterna Sarah, wife of Rabbi Shalom Dovber Schneerson of Lubavitch, and mother of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch, written to her cousin, Rabbi Ezriel Zelig Slonim – a leader of Kollel Chabad in Eretz Yisrael.

Rebbetzen Shterna Sarah Schneerson (1859-1942), daughter of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson of Avrutch (son of the Tzemach Tzedek of Lubavitch), and wife of Rabbi Shalom Dovber of Lubavitch. The Lubavitcher Rebetzen was a famous personality who was active in raising funds to support the Torah students of the Lubavitch Yeshivos. During WWII she escaped from Europe together with her son Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch and settled in New York.

Rabbi Ezriel Zelig Slonim (1897-1972), a descendant of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, born in Chevron, studied at the Lubavitch Yeshiva, where he became a close adherent of Rabbi Shalom Dovber of Lubavitch and carried out a number of missions on his behalf. He also served as fundraiser for the Chabad institutions in Eretz Yisrael and was appointed head of Kollel Chabad by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch in 1949.

1 side. 21.5 x 27 cm. Good condition. Slight tears.
