(1874-1964) 31st President of the United States whose attempts to reverse the course of the Great Depression led to his defeat at the polls by Franklin D. Roosevelt. T.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Aug. 16, 1939, a quite cryptic response to a previous letter. In part: '...I am totally at a loss to make any suggestions to you. You might consider somebody like Henry Stimson, former Secretary of State, who is largely non-political...' Docketed at the upper-right in red indelible pencil. Signed in black pen at the conclusion. Light mailing folds, else fine.
