THEODORE ROOSEVELT
(1858 - 1919) Twenty-sixth President of the United States who started the Panama Canal, settled the Russo-Japanese War, broke up Standard Oil and encouraged conservation. Partly-printed D.S. as President, 1p. folio, Washington, May 24, 1906, the appointment of 'Zachary Taylor' (!) to serve as postmaster at Colfax, Illinois. Co-signed by Postmaster General GEORGE B. CORTELYOU (1862-1940). Boldly signed, but otherwise in poor condition with multiple tears, paper loss at margins, stains, etc. Estimated at signature value.
