BOARD GAME: 'PUBLIC ASSISTANCE: WHY BOTHER WORKING FOR A LIVING?'
One of the most offensive board games in American history: 'PUBLIC ASSISTANCE: WHY BOTHER WORKING FOR A LIVING?', created by Hammerhead Enterprises, ca. 1980, in which players would pursue two paths, either the 'working person’s rut' or 'able-bodied welfare recipient’s promenade, ' and see who could get ahead first via government welfare payouts or paydays. Presumed complete set, including the game board, individual pieces and pawns, cards, dice, and instructions. The cardboard box is notably worn from use, with some tearing towards the corners, though the game itself is in very good condition. Hailed on the box as the 'Great Welfare Game', 'Public Assistance' was so controversial that it was quickly pulled from shelves after its release.
