ELVIS PRESLEY ALABAMA/MISSISSIPI 1956 TICKET.
On September 26, 1956, Elvis made his triumphant return to Tupelo, Mississippi to perform a pair of shows in his hometown. Having first performed there at the age of ten, Elvis once again took the stage at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair & Dairy Show for this legendary appearance. Elvis’ fame was rapidly spreading across the nation and his hometown could not have been prouder. Elvis returned to a huge banner that read “Tupelo Welcomes Elvis Presley Home” and Tupelo mayor James Ballard presented Elvis with the guitar-shaped Key to the City, while Mississippi governor J.P. Coleman read a proclamation honoring Elvis. By this time in 1956, Elvis’ first film was just months away from release and he already had several huge hits on his new record label, RCA, including “Heartbreak Hotel, ” “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Hound Dog.” A crowd of girls rushed the stage for Elvis’ first matinee performance, and included in the throng was a young, 14-year-old Tammy Wynette, who could be spotted right up front. Offered is a ticket from the Mississippi-Alabama Fair where this memorable event took place, when Elvis was welcomed home with open arms and plenty of adoration. The ticket is mounted in a display with reproductions of two pictures of Elvis that day. The concert ticket is from Elvis Presley’s performance held at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show on September 26, 1956. Elvis made a triumphant return to his birthplace, Tupelo, which was celebrated as ‘Elvis Presley Day.'
