Batei Machaseh was the first housing developments in Yerushalayim undertaken by European Jews. It was built by Kollel Ho’D (the German and Dutch charitable organisation to support the poor of the Holy Land) between 1860 and 1890. Distribution and rental of the apartments created discord and the agreement recorded in this document was an attempt to settle matters.

Rabbi Ezriel Hildesheimer (1820-1899), disciple of Rabbi Yakov Ettlinger - the Aruch La’ner. Rabbi of Eisenstadt (1851), where he established a Rabbinical Training College. In 1869 he was appointed Rabbi of the Adas Yisroel community in Berlin, where he established the Rabbiner Seminar and many welfare organisations and activities.
