Sturgeon Bay photograph: Infrared Photograph. Framed and matted 16" x 20". Image 11" x 14". Signed on verso by the artist, David Sponseller. Sturgeon Bay is located in Cross Village, Michigan just south of the famous Mackinaw City. Sturgeon Bay is well known, as much of Michigan, for its beautiful sandy beaches, and tranquil, natural settings, perfect for relaxing days, and photographs. Infrared photographs are different than normal black and white. It takes a special film, or digital camera that has been specifically altered to only capture infrared light waves beyond human perception capabilities. Infrared photography captures the heat that emanates from the subject matter. This will often create a surreal, unusual photograph. Anything cold tends to photograph darker, while anything with more heat becomes much lighter. This effect can most clearly been seen when photographing nature. Sky and water will turn deep and rich tones of black whiles leaves, grass, and other vegetation turn much lighter..
