Sefer Mekor Chaim, Mantua 1559. Only Edition.

A complete copy of Sefer Mekor Chaim, a comprehensive commentary and elucidation on the Torah and focusing primarily on Ibn Ezra’s commentary. Authored by R. Shmuel Tzartzah, also known as R. Shmuel Ibn Sanah. It is interesting to note the author’s description of 15th century Pagans, whom he describes at length when discussing the topic of reincarnation. He writes, in part (pp. 123): “My question for those who believe that reincarnation occurs at the time of Techias HaMeisim… this belief is compatible only with that nation of people called Pagans, who have no true religion; no king or ruler. All they do is sit on the mountaintops… They celebrate one holiday a year, during which men and women come and drink… trade their wives between them and claim the souls leave the bodies of the innocent and enter the souls of the newborns, and if he is not innocent, then his soul simply leaves and is transferred to a dog. So is attested to by R. Binyamin of Toledo, author of ‘Ma’asos Binyamin”. A rare and interesting work.
