The Carson City Mint was reactivated for coinage operations late in 1889 and a small mintage of 350,000 Morgan dollars was accomplished, with all the coins delivered in the last quarter of the year. Few high-quality examples were saved by contemporary collectors and few were ever released from government storage, making the 1889-CC the most elusive Morgan dollar from the Carson City Mint. This impressive Choice AU specimen shows only light wear on the sharply struck design elements and the lightly abraded surfaces retain much of their original mint luster.
