Rare German silver Havdallah plate 19th century, Nuremberg , Germany
As the Shabbos/Sabbath departs, we bless the forthcoming week over a cup of wine, a lit candle and aromatic spices. The spilt wine is blessed wine that we wipe on our brows as a segulah for a good week and extra intelligence with healthy guarded eyes. This heavy silver plate from Nuremberg is unusual as it is made specifically for Havdallah with the blessing "Good week and Good year" in Yiddish embossed within the Star of David in the centre of the plate. The wording from Psalms "The Commandments of G-d were created and cause well lit eyes" adorn the circumference of the plate in extra large lettering..Two bunches of grapes are seen between the wording, one on each side of the plate, and there are two curled small handles. The plate stands on four heavy feet beneath the centre of the Star of David.
