Silver gilt Charity box set on onyx stone base, Gershenkorn, Israel 20th century
A collectors item. Beautifully hand made, crafted in the shape of the front page of the Talmud printed in Vilna, known as The Vilna Shaar Blatt. This phenominal unique Gershenkorn piece holds a charity box within its back wall, coins being deposited through the top of the Roman arch, with the Hebrew word Tzedakah-Charity chased above the door, alluding to the connection between learning Talmud and giving charity. Intricate silver flowers in the gilt vases, lions atop the scrolled arches set on round polished gilt pillars. The Charity box sits atop a wonderful rectangular grey green Onyx base, that is supported by four silver gilt arched corner legs. Silver gilt key lies on onyx base.
