Rare Silver Tzedoko- Charity box , Polish, 19-20th century

This rare silver rectangular Tzedoko-Charity box with lock and key is crafted of solid heavy shiny silver. The handle joins the box with plaques of fine design. The lid has a raised small rectangular box with slit to drop the coins in. Every Synagogue had a charity box to enable the worshipers to give charity, the Mitzva being an integral part of a Jews way of life. Some would give the donation during the prayers whilst others gave before or after praying. Key is missing but the top is openable. Hallmarked.

Height 18cm
