PAIR OF FRENCH ETCHINGS AFTER CORREGIO AND RUBENS
A pair of French etchings on paper, from the famous edition of the Galerie du Palais Royal, Paris, 1786. The first: After Antonio da Correggio (Italian, 1489—1534), Venus with Mercury and Cupid (Education of Love). Engraver: Gerard Rene Le Vilain (French, c. 1740 - 1812 or 1836). Circa 1810. Additionally inscribed on the back. The second: After Peter Paul Rubens (Dutch, 1577-1640). (The Four Continents.), The Four Corners of the World; an allegorical scene with the Four Rivers. Engraved by Joseph de Longueil. Circa: 19th century. Both etchings are signed in the plate lower right and left; titled and marked in the plate lower to the center. Framed. The original paper labels of Bergdorf Goodman on the back.
