ANTIQUE 19TH C. MEISSEN PORCELAIN CABINET PLATE
A late 19th century Meissen Germany porceain plate. The center is painted with a Rococo style scene depicting a young woman playing lyre and a cherub playing mandolin, the sky blue border is decorated with raised gilt motifs Bears a blue underglaze stamp of the Meissen factory with two crossed swords underside. Meissen porcelain, also called Dresden porcelain or porcelaine de Saxe, German hard-paste, or true, porcelain produced at the Meissen factory, near Dresden in Saxony (now Germany), from 1710 until the present day. It was the first successfully produced true porcelain in Europe and dominated the style of European porcelain manufactured until about 1756, after which the leadership ultimately passed to French Sèvres porcelain.
