Orden De Ros-Asanah y Kipur - Machzor for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Amsterdam 1726. Printed Entirely in Spanish for Marrano Communities.

A complete copy of the Machzor for use during the High Holy Days - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, according to the Sephardic Rite. Printed in Amsterdam in 5486 (1726) entirely in Spanish, to benefit the Marrano community, who was not well-versed in the Hebrew language. This edition also includes the Selichot prayers said by Sephardic Jews during the month of Elul (the days leading up to Rosh Hashanah).

In overall good condition. A small abrasion can be seen on title page. A small wormhole runs throughout the book, from the beginning until the end of the volume. Occasional worming also present, at times affecting text. Otherwise very good. Like most copies, the paper is browned.

An important and collectible prayer book printed for and used by the Marrano Community in Amsterdam during the 18th century.

An ownership inscription written in 1728 can be seen in this copy. Seemingly, it was actually used and owned by an 18th century Marrano. Bound in contemporary vellum.

[1], 470, [1] pp.

A rare edition. According to Vinograd, it is not found in Israel’s National Library.

Vinograd, Amsterdam 1277.
