A complete copy of Tractates Me’ilah, Kinnim, Middos and Tamid from the magnificent Basel Talmud, printed in 1580.
This edition was printed by Ambrosius Froben of Basel, following the burning of the Talmud which occurred in Italy. Due to censorship issues, each volume was printed separately and the printing of the entire Talmud set was never completed. Although the title page states Rambam’s commentary on the Mishnah was printed along with it, in fact, it was not printed here rather in a separate volume.
Volumes of the Talmud printed during the 16th century are rare and highly collectible.
In overall very good condition. Paper slightly brown as in all Basel editions. A small textual correction seen in old hand on pp. 13b. Light water stains on some pages.
