Rare: Sefer Orach Yamim, Venice Circa 1600. Personal Copy of R. Nochum Duber Friedman of Sadigura.

Presented here is an exceedingly rare ethical work authored by R. Shmuel Benveniste. of Venice. This work was written to teach and educate youth with proper ways of Chinuch. The author is of the opinion that one can properly educate and teach children only if his own actions serve by example. Thus this work discusses issues both of parents and children.

One interesting observation can be found on pp. 6: “Many don’t bother to pray with a Minyan during the week, and on Shabbos they come for just a minute… and even then they don’t bother to pray properly, but rather talk to one another throughout”. The author continues with the following: “In truth, we should learn from the Yishmaelim (Muslims) who stand in total awe and seriousness while praying. They would never glance at one another - let alone speak to one another - during prayer”.

This copy originates from the prestigious library of R. Nachum Dov Friedman of Sadigura (d. 1883), with his personal and library stamps.

An exceedingly rare work. According to Vinograd, no copy exists in Israel’s National Library. It should be noted that in recent years a copy was purchased from the Valmadonna - Lunzer collection.

In overall good condition. Light water stains, some pages loose. Bound in 19th c. cloth binding, with the Friedman library sticker in red. No date printed on title, although it is estimated to be printed circa 1600.

7 leaves. 14cm.

Vinograd, Venice 890.
