Sefer Pardes Rimonim, Sabbioneta 1554 - Bound With Tshuvos MaHari Mintz and MaHaram Padua, Venice 1553. First Editions.

Presented here are two rare and important treatises printed during the 16th century. Both are first editions. The first is Sefer Pardes Rimonim, a commentary on Agadic literature authored by R. Shem Tov Ibn Shaprut of Spain, a 14th century Rabbi and philosopher. In it, he aims to clarify complicated and difficult passages of Agados in the Talmud. Rare.

The second is the fundamental Responsa work entitled “Zera L’Tzedakah”, which contains Rabbinic Responsa of two great Torah luminaries who lived during the 16th century: R. Yehudah Mintz - Mahari Mintz (circa 1405-1508), Italy’s foremost Rabbi for for 47 years, and his son-in-law R. Meir Katzenelbogen - MaHaram Padua.

In the Siege of Padua which occurred right after the death of R. Yehudah Mintz in 1508, most of his writings were destroyed. Only 16 responsa written by him were found. In 1553, they were brought to print by his son-in-law MaHaram Padua, who published them together with his own responsa in this edition.

The responsa of MaHari Mintz and MaHaram Padua are perhaps the most well-known responsa authored by Ashkenazic sages during the 16th century. They are frequently quoted by contemporaries of their era. A very rare work.
